Garmin Custom Waypoint Symbols
How to Add Garmin Nuvi Waypoint Symbols. In addition to making custom icons for your Garmin Nuvi, it also allows you to take screen captures of the Garmin's screen.
And I enlarged one my 24x24 symbols to 32x32 and it is showing. When Custom Waypoint Symbols were first introduced, with sometime in late 2004, they were limited to 16x16 pixels. At that time I think all symbols in MapSource were the same size. The latest version allows the user to select the size from 'Very Small', 'Small', 'Normal', 'Large' and 'Very Large' but I don't know what dimensions they correspond to. Basecamp has a slider, with 3 positions, to set the Symbol size. Again I don't know what sizes those choices correspond to.
The point is that MapSource and Basecamp now support symbols of varying sizes. The map POI symbols are all square as far as I can tell but it's possible rectangular symbols are supported nowadays (I don't know). I think my 76CSx is still limited to 16x16 pixels but the Oregon and other new models probably support larger since they have more memory. FYI there's no reason why the symbols used by MapSource/Basecamp have to be the same size (i.e. Files) as those used in the GPS. That's because the actual symbol icon is NOT transferred when waypoints are exchanged.
In fact every waypoint symbol (custom or not) is represented by a code and the PC software/GPS look that up to decide what symbol to display. Install Jai Into Jdk. Therefore one could use 32x32 symbols at the PC end and 16x16 in their GPS. Of course you'd then have two sets of files to maintain etc. I just created a new waypoint in my GPSmap 76CSx and assigned a custom waypoint symbol to it.
MapSource 6.16.3 ==>manually uploaded waypoint & custom symbol shows ok Basecamp 3.1.2 ==>Mechanical Measurements And Instrumentation Ebook there. automatically showed waypoint & custom symbol shows ok That said Basecamp automatically shows data in attached device(s) (unlike MapSource) but once you disconnect a device its data will disappear!!! If you want to save data on the PC you have to copy it to the Basecamp 'Library'. Did you do that? Sounds to me like you have waypoint(s) of the same name, but different symbol, in the 'Library' so when you disconnect your Oregon you see the saved version rather than the ones in your GPS.
Using Customized Waypoint Symbols You can add customized symbols for your waypoints. MapSource includes 8 default custom waypoint symbols located on your computer in 'My Documents My Garmin Custom Waypoint Symbols.' You can open these symbols with a graphic editor and use them as templates for creating your own symbols. You can add up to 64 custom waypoint symbols.
These symbols must be in.bmp format and must be named numerically from '000.bmp' to '063.bmp.' Custom waypoint symbols can be 16 x 16 pixels (small) or 24 x 24 pixels (large) and up to 32-bit color. After you have created customized waypoint symbols, you can add them to a waypoint using the Symbol field in the Waypoint Properties window. See Editing Waypoint Properties for more information. PS But what we need to know is after doing what it says how do you load them to the GPS Unit. I have two questions regarding using Mapsource with nuvi.
