The main problem I had with the original campaign was that the AI was retarded.would always follow the first/closest target that fired on it, so you could run away while your lancemates just blew him apart. MC2 Omnitech has much better AI, and the latest release seems to be pretty bug-free except for the inventory system and a few other things. One of the included campaigns 'exodus' seems very polished to me as well.
